About this release
Mato takes Bobby Caldwell’s What You Won’t Do For Love into reggae territory with vocalist Ethel Lindsey. Released by Stix, the single begins the label’s Mellow Reggae Series, an idea developed with Favorite Recordings founder Pascal Rioux around AOR and blue-eyed soul songs. Lindsey carries the melody on the vocal side, while Mato’s dub version gives the production a second perspective on the reverse. The record continues Thomas Blanchot’s long-running approach to adapting songs from beyond reggae through roots rhythms and dub production. Both versions appear together on this seven-inch, keeping the vocal interpretation and its instrumental counterpart in one release.
