About this release
Mike Welch’s ‘Renovations’ combines reflective songwriting with acoustic guitar, pedal steel and a blend of folk, soft rock and country-inflected soul. Privately pressed in 1981, the album took shape while Welch balanced work, music and the renovation of a Massachusetts house. Recorded at H.T. Recording Studios in Dennis, Massachusetts, its ten songs move through love, memories and economic hardship, from ‘Colorado Country Girl’ to ‘Streets Of My Town’. NuNorthern Soul’s edition is remastered by Simon Mills of Bent, with sleeve notes by Paul Hillery drawing on interviews with Welch. The LP includes a heavy card insert.
