About this release
Mos Def’s sung meditation from Black On Both Sides finds a companion in Carl Craig’s textural techno on this split release. The dub and vocal versions of Umi Says place its reflective mood in two different settings, with the vocal foregrounding the tender delivery that distinguishes it from the album’s rap tracks. Sandstorm shifts the emphasis towards Craig’s electronic textures and dance-floor pulse, bringing together two artists whose music reaches beyond a single style.
