About this release
Congo pairs a vocal performance by Toronto singer Nkrumah, also known as Kwame Salmon, with a dub version from the Heavy Manners crew. The music works within roots reggae, using a slow, weighty rhythm and a spacious arrangement to support his voice. For this Shella Records seven-inch, Congo appears in a different mix from its earlier lathe-cut release, with Congo Dub on the reverse. The two sides offer vocal and instrumental perspectives on the same groove, with the dub bringing the production’s space and effects further forward.
