About this release
Entrance Music brings pianist Steve Okonski back together with drummer Aaron Frazer and bassist Michael Isvara ‘Ish’ Montgomery for a second trio album. Recorded to tape over five days at Terry Cole’s Portage Lounge studio in Loveland, Ohio, the record follows Magnolia with a more pastoral and spacious direction. Jazz improvisation and beats shaped by hip-hop meet within nine concise pieces, from the opening ‘October’ to ‘Penny’. Cole’s production supports the trio’s interplay without pulling attention from the songs, giving the piano, bass and drums room to respond to one another. This Colemine edition is pressed on orange-and-black swirl vinyl.
