About this release
Spíra returns Ólöf Arnalds to stripped-back Icelandic-language songwriting, with much of the album recorded in single takes in Sundlaugin’s control room. Produced by Skúli Sverrisson, who also plays bass and guitar, the record pairs her distinctive soprano with sparse, closely woven arrangements. Davíð Þór Jónsson contributes piano and guitar, continuing a musical relationship built through years of performing together. The songs reflect on creativity, family, forgiveness and renewal, with images of growth and the natural world running through them. Rather than expanding the sound outward, the trio draws its detail from the space around the voice and the intimacy of the performances.
