About this release
Wonderlust is pianist and producer Joshua Smeltink's first On-Ly release recorded with a band. Its six compositions bring his background in house and hip-hop into a jazz setting shaped by the electric groups of the 1960s and 1970s. Smeltink handles piano, keyboards, synthesizer and trumpet, joined by Daniel Waddingham on guitar, Ash de Neef on bass, Phil Stroud on percussion and Bryce Zelno on drums. Recorded in Melbourne during two sessions in 2022, the album moves between extended, composed passages and more open ensemble playing. This La Sape LP presents the complete sequence, from Bosco I through the closing Icarus.
