About this release
Onra frames After Dark as the soundtrack to an imagined film, following a night from its opening scene to the closing credits. The album develops the R&B and modern soul direction of Long Distance and Nobody Has To Know, drawing on late-1980s and early-1990s production. Analogue synthesizers, concise drum programming and restrained basslines set the mood, with additional synthesizer and saxophone from Lewis McCallum. Mixed by Onra and Blanka and mastered by Blanka, the record places atmosphere and sequencing at the centre. Intro and outro pieces enclose a compact set concerned with intimacy, distance and city life after dark.
