About this release
Os Brazões' self-titled album brings samba and Brazilian songwriting into the fuzz guitars, percussion and studio effects of late-1960s psychedelia. Originally released by RGE Discos in 1969, it contains twelve tracks, including interpretations of Gilberto Gil's Pega A Voga Cabeludo and Jorge Ben and Toquinho's Carolina, Carol Bela. The Rio de Janeiro group backed Gal Costa during her tropicália period, with frontman Miguel de Deus later recording Black Soul Brothers in 1977. Their album moves between vocal harmonies, rock rhythms and samba patterns, with the arrangements giving familiar songs a different character. This Mr Bongo LP reissue reproduces the original artwork.
