About this release
Muscle Up explores Patrick Cowley’s experimental instrumental recordings from 1973–1980, gathered by Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem from the Fox Studio archives and other surviving tapes. Away from his best-known Hi-NRG singles, Cowley builds expansive pieces from synthesizers, percussion, modified guitars and equipment he constructed himself.
The collection moves through ambient passages, slowly unfolding funk and extended electronic workouts, including The Jungle Dream, Somebody To Love Tonight and Timelink. Restored and remastered by George Horn, the music reveals another side of the San Francisco producer’s imagination. This double LP repress includes a replica promotional poster and an essay by Maurice Tani.
