About this release
Pavel Milyakov and Ukrainian singer Yana Pavlova bring minimal guitar loops, dubby bass and shadowy vocals together on Blue. Saxophone contributions include recordings by Alex Zhang Hungtai, adding another voice to the album’s spare, intimate arrangements. Microphone noise, clicks and other imperfections remain part of the sound, giving the performances a raw, close-up presence. Improvisation and unpredictable algorithms shape the music without smoothing away those details. Across the eight-track vinyl programme, Pavlova’s singing moves through blurred instrumental textures, with the rhythm of ‘Rebel Funk’ offering a different emphasis within the album’s restrained atmosphere.
