About this release
Picture Music brings together ambient, minimal jazz and experimental recordings made by a Brisbane collective during the mid-1980s. Jon Anderson, Rainer Guth, Gary McFeat and Rod Owen worked on music intended for film soundtracks, with recordings circulated as a demonstration tape and sold locally. Sessions took place late at night, when cooler temperatures made the electronic equipment more reliable, and that quiet setting shaped the album's atmosphere. Left Ear Records' reissue draws from the original master tapes of the 1987 cassette. Its eleven compositions appear across two vinyl records, preserving the combination of electronic textures, instrumental playing and understated arrangements.
