About this release
Swirling is the first album by Puli, the Los Angeles trio of Damon Palermo, Phil Cho and John Jones. Recorded in their Chinatown studio, the eight-track set brings dub, downtempo and Balearic ideas into arrangements developed by the group together. ‘Ramona’ combines shifting dub rhythms with bright synth motifs and atmospheric guitar, while ‘Havana Jam’ places bass guitar against textured chords. Cho’s vocals lead ‘Cloudy’ and the closing ‘C.S.B.’, and live percussion sits alongside the electronic production on ‘Leech Seed Dub’. Released by Open Space, the LP presents four tracks on each side.
