About this release
Río Abajo is the debut solo album from Venezuelan singer and percussionist Rebecca Roger Cruz. Her background in traditional music, collective improvisation and experimental performance meets an acoustic ensemble of violin, cello, double bass and percussion, with voices woven through the arrangements. Baroque influences sit alongside birdsong, incantatory passages and rhythmic intensity, linking the music to landscapes and the natural world. The record moves from the opening Abreme la Puerta Juana through the brief Reencuentro de Aves introduction to the title piece, drawing its varied materials into a personal exploration of voice, texture and movement.
