About this release
WJLB Tracks captures Derrick May’s Rhythim Is Rhythim sound in a continuous studio megamix assembled for his Detroit radio show in 1989. The performance brings together his own tracks and alternate versions, including unreleased treatments of Nude Photo 88 and Strings Of Life, as a document of his early approach to mixing and production.
Restored from a home-recorded cassette preserved by Richie Hawtin and mastered with May’s approval, the recording runs for 14:12. It plays continuously across eight visible sections on side A, with a laser-etched reverse. The eight player clips below are previews of that single recording.
