About this release
Robohands pairs two recordings that connect laid-back instrumental grooves with the textures of early-1970s jazz and film music. On “Thermae”, Andy Baxter plays guitar, bass and drums alongside Jim Piela’s saxophone and Francesca Uberti’s piano, with an effects-treated woodwind part linking the piece to his earlier work. “The Atrium” brings tenor saxophone, trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone and French horn into the arrangement, drawing inspiration from Joe Zawinul and the atmosphere of films such as Marathon Man and Three Days Of The Condor. Bastard Jazz’s seven-inch brings both pieces together following their original digital releases in 2024.
