About this release
Crazy P co-founder Jim Baron brings live instrumentation and soulful vocals to Ron Basejam’s Is It Daylight?, balancing disco warmth with the weight of deep house. Maynard opens with Moog bass, piano chords, Hammond swells and brass, wrapped around a bluesy vocal. Bighorn turns filtered sample chops into a steadily ascending groove, while the title track gives its central vocal space between piano and brass hooks. The 8 Bit Slowdown closes with a looser rhythmic approach, drawing on live improvisation and interlocking polyrhythms. Across the record, the arrangements move between tightly worked loops and the more fluid feel of musicians playing together.
