About this release
Stapodia brings two recordings from Tenderlonious-led quartet Ruby Rushton to 22a on 10-inch vinyl. Written and recorded during a March 2024 stay on Mykonos, the music features Tenderlonious on alto saxophone, flute and percussion, Nick Walters on trumpet, Aidan Shepherd on keyboards and Tim Carnegie on drums. The title track moves from a relaxed 4/4 groove into a stronger 5/4 passage, with horn solos and a drum breakdown shaping its course. Kalo Livadi shifts between faster ensemble playing and a slower hip-hop feel, leaving space for keyboards, flute and trumpet. Both pieces reflect the group’s blend of hard bop energy and rhythm-led experimentation.
