About this release
Scrimshire brings spiritual jazz, folk and soul into an album assembled over five years. He plays most of the instruments himself, with collaborators expanding the music through saxophone, flute, harp, piano and voice. Dwight Trible leads Asleep, A Dream, while Mahesh Kale contributes to Your Heart Is My Heart, My Hand Is Your Hand. Choirs give the title track a communal warmth, and Faye Houston’s voice guides the extended closing piece Awake, A Dream. Released by Albert’s Favourites, the album’s unhurried arrangements leave room for its melodies and instrumental passages to develop.
