About this release
Shabaka brings saxophone back into his solo music on Of The Earth, combining it with electronics, woodwinds and percussion. Entirely written, performed, produced and mixed by Shabaka Hutchings, the album draws connections between the rhythmic drive of Sons Of Kemet and The Comet Is Coming and the more textural language of his recent solo work. Breath and instrumental tone remain central, while production becomes part of how the pieces take shape. Released on his own Shabaka Records imprint, the record presents that range as a self-contained musical vocabulary, moving through acoustic detail, layered rhythm and electronic sound without relying on a guest ensemble.
