About this release
Steve Kuhn’s self-titled album brings his piano and Fender Rhodes together with Ron Carter’s bass, Billy Cobham’s drums and Airto Moreira’s percussion. Gary McFarland’s arrangements frame Kuhn’s compositions, with strings on several tracks and spontaneous, partly improvised vocals adding another dimension to the session. The playing balances supple funk rhythms with lyrical keyboard lines, allowing freer passages to emerge without leaving the melodies behind. Across eight tracks, including “The Baby”, “Hold Out Your Hand” and “The Meaning Of Love”, the group’s rhythmic interplay remains central. This Eating Standing Recordings reissue presents the complete album on heavyweight vinyl cut at 45 RPM.
