About this release
Surprise Chef take a looser, more spontaneous approach on Superb, connecting their cinematic soul sound with heavier drums and exploratory arrangements. “Bully Ball” layers percussion, keys, bass and guitar over a forceful beat, while “Body Slam” moves from a sweet opening towards darker textures. “Fare Evader” adds science-fiction-like synth details, and “Consulate Case” and “Tag Dag” bring Afro-funk and jazz-funk influences into the rhythm section. Quieter pieces such as “Websites” and “Dreamer’s Disease” balance that energy. This translucent tangerine vinyl LP presents all eleven tracks, from “Sleep Dreams” to “Slippery Dip”, on Big Crown Records.
