About this release
Sven Wunder draws on Japanese folk music, jazz-rock and the visual ideas of wabi sabi on this eleven-track album for Piano Piano. Concert flute and guzheng meet Moog synthesizer, Wurlitzer electric piano and electric bass, connecting acoustic timbres with modern rhythm and keyboard arrangements. The compositions take inspiration from ukiyo-e and the influence of Japanese art on European painting, with titles including Hanami, Komorebi and Onsen reflecting the album's focus on nature and atmosphere. From Yūgen to North Wind Rattles the Leaves, the programme moves through funk, progressive jazz and folk textures, forming a continuous instrumental journey.
