About this release
Byron Stingily’s falsetto gives Devotion its emotional lift, while Marshall Jefferson’s production connects soulful vocals with the pulse of early Chicago house. First released in 1987, the song helped establish Ten City’s blend of R&B expression, dramatic melody and club rhythm. The Club Mix is joined by Bam Bam’s House Mix, the stripped-back Halla-Pella and Bonus Beats, opening up different aspects of the arrangement. Together they move from the full vocal performance towards the voice and drum machine elements at its core.
