About this release
Tenderlonious reinterprets John Coltrane’s Africa/Brass with a quartet recorded at The JazzLab in Melbourne on 20 October 2025. The performance formed part of Pique-nique’s Take Two series at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, where a full playback of an album precedes a live response. Tim Carnegie joins on drums, with Horatio Luna on bass and On-Ly on piano, supporting Tenderlonious on saxophones and flute. Africa occupies the first side, followed by Greensleeves and Blues Minor. The group uses the original melodies as a starting point for modal exploration, bringing Coltrane’s material into the setting of a live quartet.
