About this release
Terry Callier’s debut approaches traditional folk songs through a musical language shaped by blues, jazz and soul. Recorded for Prestige in 1964, it places his voice and guitar at the centre of interpretations of 900 Miles and Cotton Eyed Joe, alongside songs including Promenade in Green and I’m a Drifter. The arrangements leave space around Callier’s singing, with bass accompaniment supporting the guitar rather than crowding it. This Bluesville Series edition from Craft Recordings and Acoustic Sounds is remastered from the original tapes by Matt Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. It is pressed at Quality Record Pressings and housed in a replica tip-on jacket.
