About this release
Pornography brings The Cure’s early sound to a dark, densely layered peak. Recorded at London’s RAK Studios and produced by the band with Phil Thornalley, the 1982 album places Robert Smith’s voice and guitar against Simon Gallup’s bass and Lol Tolhurst’s drums. The insistent opening of One Hundred Years sets the tone for a sequence that includes The Hanging Garden, the slower pull of Siamese Twins and the closing title track. Its heavy rhythms and tightly wound atmosphere make this a central record in the band’s gothic period, with little of the brighter pop direction that followed.
