About this release
The Head on the Door finds The Cure opening their sound to a wider range of melodies and rhythms. Produced by Robert Smith and David M. Allen at London’s Angel Recording Studios, the 1985 album brings together the bright guitar rush of In Between Days, the spare arrangement of Close to Me and the darker sweep of A Night Like This. Kyoto Song, The Blood and Six Different Ways give the sequence contrasting colours, while Sinking closes on a more reflective note. Across the album, the band’s pop songwriting sits alongside the atmosphere and tension of their earlier records.
