About this release
The Flying Hats bring the rhythmic language of early reggae together with organ-led funk on The Blender and Hot Cakes. The Leeds quartet's sound is built around drummer Sam Hobbs and bassist Neil Innes, joined by organist Bob Birch and guitarist Chris Dawkins. Their interplay connects Studio One-style syncopation with the muscular grooves of New Orleans, driven by bass, breakbeats and thick organ lines. The Blender was created as a single exclusive, while Hot Cakes comes from the group's debut album, The Return Of, giving the two sides a shared sound without repeating the same approach.
