About this release
Matasuna Records pairs two contrasting sides of 1960s New York Latin music, returning to the ATCO and Atlantic catalogues for this release. The Harvey Averne Dozen’s You’re No Good combines a warm soul vocal with a steady mid-tempo groove and a vibraphone-led arrangement. On the reverse, Louie Ramirez & His Orchestra bring a more percussive approach to Mueve La Cadera, with brass and rhythm driving its boogaloo energy. The pairing connects melodic crossover soul with a more tightly arranged orchestral dance sound, showing the different ways the city’s Latin bands brought rhythm, instrumental colour and popular song together.
