The Mr K Edits - Hey Roots

Mr K turns to two New York disco cuts for Hey Roots on Most Excellent Unltd, bringing Black Rock’s ‘Hey Roots’ and Ahzz’s ‘New York’s Movin’ onto a 7-inch. The first side keeps its focus on a stomping, hypnotic groove, with sparse vocals and a patient arrangement that gives the rhythm time to work.

On the flip, ‘New York’s Movin’ is pared back to its instrumental core. Handclaps, tambourine, guitar and synth strings build the momentum before the breakdown opens things up. Two compact edits with different shades of the same city’s disco sound: useful for DJs, but just as easy to enjoy from start to finish at home.
