About this release
The Psychedelic Freaks is Horatio Luna's alias for an exploration of seventies-inspired jazz fusion. Passing Through The Doorways Of Your Mind brings Afrobeat, funk and psychedelic jazz into the same frame, with the electric period of Miles Davis among its stated reference points.
Released by La Sape, the six-track debut moves from its title piece through The Chosen Path and To The Funk Valley, before a second side comprising The Next Level, Illuminated Waterfalls and I See Absolute. Luna also cites figures including Fela Kuti, Frank Zappa and Alice Coltrane in the project's background, placing it within a broad tradition of exploratory, rhythm-led music.
