About this release
The Reflex gives Lolita and Camels two different rhythmic settings on this TMB release. Lolita moves through sliding hi-hats, a funk bassline and busy piano chords, with a strong soul vocal at the centre. Camels shifts towards chunkier drums, an irregular chord sequence and saxophone phrases that add a looser melodic feel. Both revisions work with the detail of their source recordings, bringing instruments and voices into new relationships with the groove. The pairing contrasts the more insistent piano-led character of the A-side with the warmer, off-centre feel of the reverse, placing one track on each side.
