About this release
The Star Beams' Play Disco Specials combines South African disco, jazz and funk across four extended pieces. Originally released on JAS Pride in 1976, the album was produced and written by Ray Nkwe, with recording credited to Robin Ritchie. We Did It opens the programme before Disco Stomp, the track that later drew attention in club and DJ selections. Barney's Moaning and G.G. Is Talking occupy the second side, completing a compact album built around its rhythmic arrangements. Mr Bongo's reissue returns the full selection to vinyl, placing the better-known Disco Stomp within its original four-track setting.
