About this release
Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes meet between soul, jazz-funk and electronic production on What Kinda Music. Misch’s vocals, guitar and beat-making are set against Dayes’ fluid drumming, with strings, bass, synthesiser lines and effects broadening the arrangements. The twelve-track album includes 'Nightrider', 'Tidal Wave' and 'Lift Off', alongside more open instrumental passages. Their contrasting strengths give the collaboration its shape: song-led ideas remain central, but the playing leaves space for rhythmic shifts and exchanges between instruments. Blue Note presents the complete album on two LPs in a gatefold sleeve, closing with 'Storm Before The Calm'.
