About this release
Disco Arabesquo, also known as Moataz Rageb, selects recordings from Egypt’s cassette culture for Ayam El Disco. The compilation follows Sharayet El Disco, bringing together disco, boogie and jeel material made between 1978 and 1992. Firkit Americana Show, Al Massrieen, Hamid El Shaeri and Ammar El Sherei appear alongside other singers and groups whose work adapted club rhythms to local melodic and vocal traditions. Most selections reach vinyl for the first time here. David Hachour remastered the audio at Colorsound Studio, with Heba Tarek providing artwork and Rageb contributing notes to an insert that also reproduces the original cassette covers.
