About this release
Compiled by Afrocat following record-digging journeys through Ghana and Ethiopia, Lost Tracks: Accra to Addis explores connections between highlife, Ethio-jazz, gospel and psychedelic funk. The Ghanaian selections include Opambuo International Band and Ashanti Afrika-Jah, alongside Afro Funk, before the focus moves to Ethiopian recordings by Bezunesh Bekele, Mulatu Astatke, Tilahun Gessesse and their contemporaries. Afrocat’s edits of Show Me Your Love and Farewell To Ibusa sit within a selection shaped by vintage dance-floor rhythms, expressive voices and the musical possibilities of the independence era.
