About this release
If I Had A Pair Of Wings Volume 2 collects fourteen Jamaican doo-wop and rhythm-and-blues recordings from the late 1950s and early 1960s. The selection follows the island's developing recording culture as sound systems began commissioning local music rather than relying entirely on American imports. Vocal harmonies and pop ballad forms remain central, while performances by Prince Buster & The Charmers, the Jiving Juniors and Higgs & Wilson hint at the changes that would lead towards ska and rocksteady. Released by Death Is Not The End, this LP brings the singers and small ensembles together in a seven-track sequence on each side.
