About this release
Tony Higgins and Mike Peden return to their Japanese jazz collections for the second volume of J Jazz. Across fourteen tracks, the compilation moves from the modal interplay of Makoto Terashita and Harold Land’s Dragon Dance to Electro Keyboard Orchestra’s electric fusion on Mother Of The Future. Teru Sakamoto Trio’s Teru-Teru Bozu brings a spare acoustic funk feel, while George Kawaguchi’s Vietnam introduces a bossa rhythm. Nobuo Hara’s orchestra adds a bigger ensemble sound on Little Giant, balancing the intimate atmosphere of Serenade To A Dimly Lit Street. The three-record selection brings these contrasting approaches together, connecting spiritual jazz, funk and large-group arrangements.
