About this release
If Music’s Jean-Claude draws together nine recordings for the fourth volume of You Need This! A Journey Into Deep Jazz. The selection spans ensemble jazz, organ-led grooves and Afrobeat, opening with Eero Koivistoinen and UMO’s “Kaamos”. Ginger Baker’s “N’Kon Kini N’Kon N’Kon”, co-written with Ransome Kuti, brings a low-slung rhythmic approach, while Phavia Kujichagulia’s “Fancy Footwork” explores Congolese themes and black consciousness. Lonnie Smith, Kan Digor, Five Times Six and Sathima Bea Benjamin broaden the programme before Japanese drummer George Hirota’s “Process Of Cloud” closes it. BBE’s double LP presents the complete nine-track selection across four sides.
