About this release
Luke Una opens É Soul Cultura’s edit series with three reworks connecting Caribbean machine soul, early UK house and Cameroonian dance music. Ella Andall’s “My Spirit Is Music” combines drum-machine drive with a carnival-like rhythmic feel in his Machine Soul Tops Off Edit. Slick Mission’s Jerry Pike-produced “Times Up” becomes the 5am Shabeen Proto House Edit, retaining its raw, homemade character. The record closes with Manu Dibango and King Sunny Adé’s version of “Jingo”, reshaped as the Dancing In Outer Space Edit. The three-track twelve-inch presents a different route through Luke Una’s collection on each cut.
