About this release
Mr Bongo’s first Record Club compilation brings together selections connected to the label’s DJ sets and radio show. The fifteen-track vinyl programme moves from Neno Exporta Som, Alípio Martins and Lemos & Debétio through Dave Pike Set’s ‘Mathar’, Buari’s ‘Karam Bani’ and The Rwenzori’s ‘Handsome Boy’. Mavis John, Big Youth and Tappa Zukie share the third side, before Connie Laverne, Alex Rodrigues, Cortex and King James Version close the set. Brazilian grooves, jazz, soul, disco and gospel sit alongside one another across four sides, reflecting the selectors’ broad approach to record collecting and playing.
