About this release
Arp Frique and Americo Brito compile twelve recordings that trace the connections between Cape Verdean music, migration and Rotterdam’s radio culture. Brito’s experiences as a musician, technician and broadcaster inform a selection drawn from songs heard within the community and collected through travels across Europe. Funaná and coladeira sit alongside disco, new wave, reggae and jazz-funk influences, reflecting the international routes travelled by the musicians. Cabo Verde Band, Elisio Vieira, Mendes & Mendes and Brito’s own Djarama feature across the programme. Released through Colorful World in collaboration with Rush Hour, ‘Radio Verde’ presents the selection across two vinyl LPs.
