About this release
Wamono Disco brings together eight Japanese disco and boogie recordings from the Nippon Columbia catalogue, spanning 1978 to 1982. The compilation captures a period when skilled studio musicians gave dancefloor records a supple, full-band feel, with disco also finding its way into television, advertising and anime.
Godiego's The Birth Of The Odyssey - Monkey Magic sits alongside Pink Parachute's Disco Great Tokyo, with further selections from Ikue Sakakibara, Soul Media, Hatsumi Shibata and Yumi Murata. It is a lively route into the Japanese disco scene, balancing familiar hooks with less widely heard tracks.
