About this release
Waajeed’s Memoirs Of Hi-Tech Jazz takes a drive through Detroit as both its setting and its structure. The album is timed around a return journey from the Underground Music Academy in the North End to Belle Isle, moving from work towards leisure. Its ten tracks celebrate Black pleasure, everyday play and resilience, with the title piece featuring Black Nix and 'Let’s Give It Up' bringing in Archpriest Rev. Wanika K. Stephens and De’Sean Jones. Released through Tresor across two LPs, the record places those ideas within Waajeed’s deep-house language and his relationship with the city.
