About this release
We Want WAAN continues saxophonist Bart Wirtz and keyboardist Emiel van Rijthoven’s exploration of jazz, electronics and beat culture. Developed after writing sessions on Texel, the album moves between live rhythmic energy, melancholy trip-hop and quieter, atmospheric passages. “Mirrors” was recorded with an audience at Leiden’s De Twee Spieghels, while “Been Blue” brings rapper and vocalist Ivy Sole into the duo’s layered sound. Production and mixing by Oscar de Jong of Kraak & Smaak connect the acoustic performances with electronic detail, and Max Gilkes handles mastering. The music gives improvisation and composed textures equal room, moving between intimate moments and more forceful arrangements.
