About this release
Yaya Bey's Remember Your North Star follows a path through romance, family relationships, generational trauma and self-love, with the experience of Black women at its centre. The self-written album draws soul, jazz, reggae and hip-hop into a fluid R&B setting, balancing difficult reflections with moments of release. Bey handles much of the production herself, with contributions from Aja Grant and DJ Nativesun. “Keisha” and “Reprise” explore the weariness of unequal relationships, while “Alright” brings a lighter jazz feel and “Pour Up” opens towards the dancefloor. This Big Dada vinyl edition presents the eighteen-track album on crystal blue 140g vinyl.
