YL Hooi - Running Around (83)

YL Hooi return to Efficient Space with 'Running Around (83)', the first release from Valya Ying-Li Hooi and Tarquin Manek since their 2019 album Untitled. A favourite from their live sets, the track brings distant vocals and cryptic lyrics into contact with a heavy dub-techno bassline, giving its atmospheric electronics a powerful physical pull.

Three remixes take the original in markedly different directions. Mad Professor supplies a percussion-rich dub with Black Steel and Karmelody, Ulla opens out the arrangement with woodwind, keys and subtle percussion, and John T. Gast steers it towards rough-edged dancehall. Four contrasting versions on a hand-stamped white-label 12-inch.
