Zafer Dilek - Oyun Havaları

Zafer Dilek’s Oyun Havaları takes regional Turkish melodies through microtonal electric guitar, bağlama, heavy bass and tightly locked percussion. First released by Yonca Müzik in 1976, its twelve instrumental arrangements sit where Anatolian folk meets psychedelic funk, with a sound closely tied to the Turkish cinema of the period.

‘Yekte’, ‘Çiçekler Ekiliyor’ and ‘Süpürgesi Yoncadan’ will be familiar territory for listeners who came to this music through Altın Gün’s later interpretations. This official reissue returns to the original master tapes, with mastering and lacquer cutting by Frank Merritt at The Carvery in London. Pressed on 180g black vinyl at Record Industry, it’s a welcome way into Dilek’s guitar playing and these enduring grooves.
