About this release
Home is Zola Marcelle’s debut album, an exploration of identity, heritage, activism and the search for belonging. Her voice sits within arrangements shaped by synthesisers, bass, drums and percussion, bringing jazz and alternative soul into contact with spoken word. Marcelle shares production duties with Lewis Moody and Rudi Creswick, while the ten-track sequence includes ‘Bloodline’, ‘Kgotso (Stillness)’ and the closing ‘Beyond’, featuring poetry by Coco oa Seroki. Released by Jazz re:freshed, the album was mixed by Shuta Shinoda and mastered by Chris Pavey, and presents a personal reflection on culture, history and self-discovery.
